Both Side of Marriage Come Out Swinging

Both Side of Marriage Come Out Swinging
Not that is wasn’t expected, but it looks like those on both sides of the Prop 8 ruling have come out swinging and ready to fight to the bitter end over what they feel is justice.
On one side, you have conservative traditionalist who are attempting to challenge Judge Walkers ruling because it went against will of the people as Prop 8 was passed by popular vote.
The County of Imperial filed an appeal Tuesday with the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals challenging U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker’s ruling that deemed Proposition 8’s ban of same-sex marriage unconstitutional.
Adding:
“The personal opinion of a single judge in San Francisco should not be substituted for the opinion of over 7 million voters,” Advocates for Faith and Freedom General Counsel Robert Tyler said in a statement.
But then supporting the premise that all Americans should have the right to marry regardless of sexual orientation, the decision is being backed by the American Bar Association (ABA) as a majority of the organizations member too believe Prop 8 was unconstitutional.
According to a post on the KQED News blog:
The American Bar Association is considering an official policy resolution opposing bans on same-sex marriage during it’s annual meeting in San Francisco.
Fourteen sub-groups have signed onto the item, including the bar associations in New York, Massachusetts, Vermont and Washington State.
The encouraging part of all this, it would appear that we have a heavy weight fighting feather weight. The brunt of the power does seem to be in our corner. For one, the arguments against marriage equality do not prove that same-sex marriage in anyway harms society, harms the institution of marriage nor does it prove that beyond religious ideology, there is any reason to oppose equality and maintain discrimination.
Yet there’s something that worries me about the opposition. Even though they may be smaller in substance, they’ve still packed a powerful punch, and as someone who only stands 5′7″ and weighs less than a buck-fifty, I know from experience, you can take easily take down someone bigger than you and yes it’s true, the bigger they are, the harder they fall
