Screen shot 2013-03-08 at 9.57.17 AM

I’ve reported inserting these figures on stories but I wanted to give it sole attention because of it’s meaning.

A new Quinnipiac poll finds support for same-sex marriage is inching up and now stands at 47% to 43%, including 54% to 38% among Catholic voters.

Said pollster Peter Brown: "Catholic voters are leading American voters toward support for same-sex marriage. Among all voters, there is almost no gender gap, but a big age gap. Voters 18 to 34 years old support same sex marriage 62% to 30%; voters 35 to 54 years old are divided 48% to 45% and voters over 55 are opposed 50% to 39%.

Dan Savage Invites Cain to Choose to be Gay/Piers Morgan Takes the Pizza Guy Back the Oven

DAN SAVAGE INVITES HERMAN CAIN TO PROVE HE CAN CHOOSE TO BE GAYGiven that Republic presidential frontrunner Herman Cain has reiterated his belief that sexual orientation is chosen, Dan Savage has again invited Cain to demonstrate he could choose to be gay. Of course, the only proof Savage will accept is if Cain performs fellatio on him in front of a camera crew. Savage also points out that Cain’s argument should be offensive to everybody, because it would mean that heterosexuality is just as much of a choice as homosexuality.  By Zack Ford

Republican presidential frontrunner Herman Cain hasrepeatedly said he believes being gay is a choice, suggesting he’s seen no science that says otherwise. In an interview with CNN’s Piers Morgan that aired last night, he reiterated this faulty belief, and when Morgan pushed him that race and sexual orientation were comparable, Cain explained that race is different because it “doesn’t wash off”:
CAIN: I respect their right to make that choice. You don’t see me bashing them or anything like that. I respect their right to make that choice. I don’t have to agree with it. That’s all I’m saying.
MORGAN: It would be like a gay person saying, Herman, you made a choice to be black.
Самые влиятельные мужчины в мире (49 фотографий), photo:20CAIN: We know that’s not the case. I was born black.
MORGAN: Yes, maybe if they said that, you would find it offensive.
CAIN: Piers, this doesn’t wash off. I hate to burst your bubble.
Of course, not only is there science that shows being gay is not a choice and doesn’t “wash off,” there is scientific consensus about the enduring nature of any sexual orientation. Homosexuality is no more likely to “wash off” than heterosexuality. As Harvey Milk said decades ago defending gay teachers, “If it were true that children emulate their teachers, we’d have a lot more nuns running around.” Cain’s comments continue the religious right’s harmful spread of misinformation and the demonization of gay people for political gain.
