August 26, 2010 by James Hipps
The nation’s largest organization of gay and lesbian active duty troops and veterans has announced the leadership and staff of the Pentagon’s Comprehensive Review Working Group on “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” will meet with a group of lesbian and gay military partners during Servicemembers United’s Military Partners Forum, which is scheduled to be held on September 16. The meeting hosted byServicemembers United, will mark the first time an event of this nature will take place between the Pentagon and partners of military personnel.
Servicemembers United’s Executive Director Alexander Nicholson stated:
“We are honored to be able to facilitate this meeting between the partners of active duty lesbian and gay troops and the leadership and staff of the Comprehensive Review Working Group. The plight of military partners is something that Servicemembers United has led the way on with our Campaign for Military Partners, and we have been pushing for partner input into the review process for quite some time. We are glad that the Pentagon recognizes the value of input from these silent heroes.”
The Campaign for Military Partners was launched in 2009 and was the first ever attempt to show support for the LGBT partners of military personnel.
