Trevor Donovan says it's “cool” that he got picked to play gay on
CW's nighttime teen drama 90210.
Donovan, who plays all-American jock Teddy Montgomery, had
been widely speculated as the actor most likely to take on the
gay role after producers announced that three series regulars were
being considered for a coming out gay storyline when the series
returns in the fall. Michael Stegers, who plays romantic Navid,
and Matt Lanter, who plays bad boy Liam, had also been considered,
 producers said.

In a tweet to his followers, the 31-year-old actor said the coming
out gay storyline would include issues of acceptance by friends and family.
“Acceptance, by family, friends, society and self is just one of the concerns
the character will be going through. It is part of life, and it should be
portrayed,” he messaged.
Entertainment Weekly reported over the weekend that Canadian pop star
Kyle Riabko, 22, had joined the cast in a gay role. Presumably he'll play
Teddy's lost love interest. Riabko can currently be seen in the Broadway
revival of HAIR.
