Mexico Court Holds Uphold Adoption Ruling
Earlier today Mexico’s Supreme Court voted 9-2 to uphold a Mexico City law which allows same-sex couples to adopt children.
The court ruled against the challenges of federal prosecutors and others who argued the law allowing gay couples to adopt fails to protect children against possible harm and/or discrimination and denies their right to be raised by a “traditional family”.
Justices who voted in favor of maintaining legalized adoption by gay couples said that since same-sex marriages had been approved, it would be discriminatory to consider same-sex couples incapable of parenting or less capable than heterosexual couples.
The court voted earlier this month by the same margin to uphold a Mexico City law passed in March that legalized same-sex marriages.
