Gay-marriage ban to continue
A temporary ban on same-sex weddings in California will continue until an appeals court rules on the constitutionality of the Proposition 8 block of gay marriage, a three-judge panel ruled today.
Chief U.S District Judge Vaughn Williams ruled Aug. 4 that the measure, approved by voters in 2008, was unconstitutional. However, he issued a temporary stay of gay weddings. That stay had been scheduled to expire Wednesday, but will now continue indefinitely.
Gay-marriage advocates said they will not appeal today's ruling to the Supreme Court, which is considered by some experts to be more conservative than the 9th Circuit Court that ruled today.
The three judge panel of which two were appointed by Clinton and one by Reagan will put the case on fast track. They will commence to hear arguments by Dec. 2010. Adamfoxie
