Singer Cyndi Lauper and comedienne Margaret Cho cheered a federal
judge's ruling that overturned Proposition 8.
Cho told gay glossy The Advocate that she was “glad” about the ruling,
but added that “this has been obvious [to me] for a long time.”
“I am sick of having to bend to people's 'religious' views, especially
when they are so hateful and insane,” she said.
Cho married artist Al Ridenour in 2003, but has also said she considers
herself to be bisexual.
When people say they don't believe in gay marriage because of their
religious beliefs, Cho said she responds with “fuck you.”
“We must have our rights. We must have equality! Fuck them,” she said.
Rocker Cyndi Lauper said the ruling was “a testament to the fundamentals
on which this great country was built and validates that the discrimination
gay couples face must come to an end.”
“This decision is a major step in the right direction,” she added.
Both women have long advocated for gay rights.
Lauper started the LGBT charity True Colors Fund of Stonewall Community Foundation, which has raised over $200,000 over the past 2 years for gay
rights groups such as the Human Rights Campaign and PFLAG, the support
group for parents and friends of gay men and lesbians
