'Criminal Minds' Star Kirsten Vangsness To Marry Girlfriend In 2013
PUBLISHED: SEPTEMBER 26, 2010
Actress Kirsten Vangsness says she and her girlfriend are planning a
round-the-world trip to marry in every country that allows gay marriage.
The 38-year-old Vangsness told EOnline.com that she and film editor
Melanie Goldstein were forced to postpone their spring 2009 plans to
exchange vows because of Proposition 8, California's gay marriage ban.
“We've come to the conclusion that we're going to do it in 2013 – no matter
what,” she said.
Vangsness, who plays FBI Technical Analyst Penelope Garcia on the CBS
crime drama Criminal Minds, came out gay on her blog in 2007, a year
after she began dating Goldstein.
“My girlfriend and I (Happy late National Coming Out Day) bought bikes”
for a charity bicycle ride, she wrote.
The women say they're prepared to trek around the globe if unable to marry
in the United States.
“Melanie wants us to go to every place that it's legal and just collect marriage certificates from places like Sweden and Mexico like people collect Disney
pins,” Vangsness said. “We want to put up a whole wall of them.”
Vangsness will also appear as a series regular on Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior, the show's first spin-off.
