'Modern Family' Eric Stonestreet-Jesse Ferguson Gay Kiss Airs Wednesday
PUBLISHED: SEPTEMBER 28, 2010
The episode fans of Modern Family gay couple Cameron and Mitchell
have been clamoring for airs Wednesday.
According to gay entertainment website AlfterElton.com, ABC will air
The Kiss this week.
Over 13,000 fans of the show at the Facebook page Let Cam &
Mitchell Kiss On Modern Family have been clamoring for an onscreen
kiss between gay couple Cameron (played by Eric Stonestreet) and
Mitchell (played by openly gay Jesse Tyler Ferguson) since the show's
May 5 episode titled Airport 2010, in which Cameron and Mitchell were
relegated to a hug after they argued while heterosexual couple Phil
(Ty Burrell) and Claire (Julie Bowen) kissed and made up.
Modern Family co-creator Steven Levitan has said that the controversy
“bothered” producers who had planed a public display of affection
episode all along.
“We've had an episode planned for a long time that dealt with that
subject of [affection between the gay characters],” Levitan said.
Despite Ferguson's attempt to tamp down expectations – “Don't expect
a Gone With the Wind type of thing.” – AlfterElton.com has already
labeled the episode a “classic.”
“What I most appreciated is that rather than just having Cameron and
Mitchell simply kiss and be done with it in order to satisfy critics,
the show explores the issues involved, especially how many gay men
are not comfortable with public displays of affection,” the website wrote.
“Well, that just makes this 'Kiss' all the sweeter.”
