He's one of the most popular superheros around, so Chris Evans knew he had a lot to live up to when he took on the role of Captain America for a new film.

But the 29-year-old actor displayed some distinctly un-superhero-like behaviour on the Manchester set of the Hollywood movie when he donned prosthetic feet for a scene which saw him run barefoot along the cobbled streets of the English city.
And clearly concerned that Evans should not injure his own feet in any way, film bosses apparently decided the cumbersome prosthetics, which came complete with solid soles, were the best way of protecting his real feet.

Today was the first time Evans, who shot to fame when he appeared in the Fantastic Four movies, has been seen on the Captain America: The First Avenger set.

And he has clearly been working hard to get in shape for the movie - showing off his muscular torso in a tight white T-shirt as he completed some gruelling action sequences.
Talking about the responsibility of taking on the role of such a well-loved superhero, Evans said recently: 'It is a big responsibility. I’m a little scared, to be honest.
'I’d be lying if I said anything else, and I have no problem being honest about that. It’s intimidating.
'It’s a big responsibility and you want to do your best work.
'He’s a wonderful character, just as a man, aside from the comic hero background.
'He’s an incredibly noble, honest, selfless man, and those are qualities that I think people can aspire to and look up to.'
Staying true to the original Marvel comic, which first came out in 1941, the film is about an everyday but patriotic man called Steve Rogers.

After being deemed unfit for military service, volunteers for a top secret research project that turns him into Captain America,a superhero dedicated to defending American ideals.
The movie is being made with 2-D cameras, but will be converted into a 3D movie during post production.
And shooting the scenes in Manchester today, Evans' stunt double showed exactly how action-filled the new movie is going to be when he wrestled a woman holding a gun to the ground.
