No Jail for Grimm for Christmas
?
Michael Grimm's year may be ending as unsteadily as it began.
In January, the Republican House member threatened to throw a reporter off a balcony—a threat that unsurprisingly garnered a lot of criticism. Now, New York's Daily News is reporting that Grimm is expected to plead guilty on Tuesday to a felony charge of tax evasion.
NBC 4 New York confirmed the report.
Grimm received a 20-count indictment in April that alleging that he concealed more than $1 million in revenue, paid employees off the books, and hired undocumented immigrants at a health fast-food restaurant he ran in Manhattan for four years.
A court official told the Daily News that Grimm, who represents New York’s 11th Congressional District, entered the plea during a Tuesday hearing in a Brooklyn federal court.
After the hearing out side of the courthouse Grimm first tried to excuse the crime by stating that many small business do the same. The at the end he finally said that it was wrong and people should obey the law.
The question now remains what would his punishment be and how long he will be allowed to remain in the House of Representatives. It will surprise me very much if he saw jailed but many people are hopping.
