Serbia to Hold First Gay Pride in a Decade
LGBT activist in Serbia are planning the country’s first gay pride march to be held in almost 10 years! The event is slated to be held on October 10th, despite threats of violence, which is why the one planned for last year was canceled.
Members of Serbia’s LGBT community are often subject to a great deal of harassment in the predominantly conservative nation. Anti-gay extremists are responsible for the early ending to their first gay pride march in 2001 which resulted in violence and several participants were injured.
The parade route is set to pass by the Serbian government building and organizers have coined the phrase “let’s walk together” for the event.
Serbian police have yet to respond to the announcement of the event but are expected to warn against it.
