Catholic Boys is one of those records for me… It colors my landscape, it shapes my vision, it inspires the work I’ve done for the last 20 yrs and “People Who Died” is THAT song. It’s the song that made me slam dance alone in my bedroom as a kid. It’s the song that told me I needed to come to NY.That’s what it meant to me the first time I heard it. Then, it meant something different in the late 80s during the height of the AIDS epidemic. Then, it meant something else to me in the 90s during my own personal turmoil. And yes, it even meant something different to me on Sept 11, 2001. Today, it means all those things and more…Today THAT song also becomes mine, even though it’s always felt like it was – I think that’s how Jim intended it to be.Dedicated to the memory of Jim Carroll (August 1 1949 – September 11, 2009), watch the video for “People Who Died”
