Is Face Book Turning Gay Friendly for once??
First Apple gave a nod to its gay customers, and now Facebook is getting into the act. This weekend, the world's largest social networking site added a new groom-and-groom/bride-and-bride icon set to help designate gay weddings, giving users the option to choose something other than the traditional groom-and-wife icon.
In terms of coding effort, the addition is quite minor. It's quite heavy in symbolism though — a way for the site to show support to openly gay couples much the way the tech industry in general does.
It appears the functionality may have been implemented to celebrate Facebook founder Chris Hughes's recent wedding to his long-time partner Sean Eldridge. The 28-year-old Hughes currently serves as editor-in-chief of The New Republic after he purchased the publication in March.
