Target (Again)Play Narrow and Stupid, Now it Refuses Frank Ocean New Hit

We thought that they learned their lesson the first time around. They lost a bundle of $, but GaGa set them right..but now...

anti-gay target refuses to sell gay frank ocean's album, target won't sell gay frank ocean's album, target won't sell frank ocean album because he is gay, gay frank ocean target For those of you living under a rock, R&B singer Frank Ocean revealed in the liner notes of his new album out this week that he is gay. And now Target is refusing to sell his album.
Frank Ocean’s “Channel Orange” has received plenty of praise since debuting early in digital form, and hitting No. 1 oniTunes in 10 countries.
But despite the apparent demand for Ocean’s debut album, which dropped after he revealed last week that he was once in love with a man, Target will not carry “Channel Orange.” The retailer cited the album’s early iTunes release as the reason behind its about face.
Buzz surrounding Target’s move not to offer the album in its stores initially focused on whether the decision had anything to do with Ocean’s revelation about his same sex love.
The retail giant has since defended its decision not to sell “Channel Orange,” telling CNN: “The claims made about Target’s decision to not carry the Frank Ocean album are absolutely false. Target supports inclusivity and diversity in every aspect of our business. Our assortment decisions are based on a number of factors, including guest demand.
Guest demand? Seriously? Might I point you in the direction of the second paragraph of this article? Ocean’s LP is the number one album in ten countries! Including here in the States!
The Target rep continued: “Target has a longstanding tradition of supporting music and artistry that reflects the diverse landscape of American culture. Our history of partnering with diverse artists includes recent partnerships with a variety of musicians.”
You know what Target? We weren’t going to go there, but since you’ve brought up the topic of diversity, might we remind readers about that time a Target Field employee told a lesbian couple to “adhere to the ten commandments?” Or that time Target sued (and lost) to prevent a marriage equality supporters from canvassing outside their stores? Or how about whenLady Gaga broke her contract with the bullseye retailer for their failure to demonstrate any sort of tangible commitment to their LGBT employees?
Target, you almost had us thinking you had changed your ways when you teamed up with Gwen Stefani for a Pride t-shirt line this summer. We even penned a column titled Do Target’s New Pride T-Shirts Mean It’s Time to Forgive Their Anti-Gay Past?
It would seem the answer to that question is no.
And please don’t believe even for a second that Ocean’s album is being blocked by the retailer because of the iTunes presale. Owl City’s second album, among plenty of others, is currently on sale at Target despite an iTunes presale.
And to quote Frank Ocean, if you believe that one of the biggest retailers in the world doesn’t want to sell the number one album in the world because somebody else is also selling it, then I have a beach house in Idaho I’d like to sell you.
