of the Westboro Baptist Church, from Topeka, Kansas, as they protest across the street from
Ground Zero July 4, 2004 in New York City. The church members believe that because of
homosexuals and America's rebelious and immoral conducts, God has brought on acts of
terrorism as a way of punishing society. (Photo by Monika Graff/Getty Images)

Lady Gaga Addresses Concert Protesters on Facebook

ST. LOUIS, Missouri (1010 WINS)  -- Grammy award-winning recording artist Lady Gaga
addressed a group of angry protesters via her Facebook and Twitter accounts hours before
her Monster Ball concert was set to begin at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Saturday night.

An hour before the concert started, the 24-year-old pop singer wrote the following message to her fans on Facebook: “At the risk of drawing attention to a hateful organization, I would like to make my… fans aware of a protest being held outside the [concert] in St. Louis tonight.”

“My request to [fans] and public authorites[sic] is to pay these hate criminals no mind. Do not interact with them, or try to fight. … Do not respond to any of their provocation. Don't waste your words, or feelings, no matter what you hear or see you are more fortunate and blessed than they are, and in your heart just pray for them,” she wrote.

Fred Phelps’ controversial Westboro Baptist Church, which organized the protest,

said via its website: “We … warn this little false prophetess and all of her over-indulged
sycophants that
they are each one, individually heading straight to hell in a gender-confused,
self-loathing,
tone-deaf hand basket.”

As a result, Gaga fans have started trending '#GodLovesGaga' on Twitter.

Based in Topeka, Kansas, the independent Baptist church is known for

 its protest activities
which include picketing funerals and desecrating the American flag.

Wow, this is why she's the shit. I love her sooo much not only for her art, but for what she stands for. She's amazing and I'm so glad she chose the high road and hope her fans did, too. Hatred must be ignored. You cannot fight shit-throwers by throwing shit back. :)
