It looks as though Ted Olson, one of the lawyers seeking to repeal Proposition 8 in California which took away the right of marriage from same-sex couples is speaking optimistically about the projected ruling now that the closing arguments have ended.
During a recent public statement Olson stated:
[U.S. District Court Chief Judge] “Vaughn Walker is expected to issue a ruling in the case within weeks. Most legal observers believe he will find Proposition 8, the constitutional amendment ending the state’s gay nuptials that voters adopted in 2008, as being unconstitutional.
It is also conceivable that Walker’s decision would allow same-sex couples to begin exchanging vows immediately.”
This is good news, yet if overturned, it’s speculated the case will be appealed and eventually be heard by the U.S. Supreme Court.
