NYC Gay Pride 2010 Colorful and Mind Blowing For Any Non New Yorker
Dazzling and colorful!
That describes the gathering of bold, animated activists for the gay rights cause during the 41st annual celebration along Fifth Ave. in Manhattan, to a cheering crowd of thousands on Sunday.
This year featured heroes such as Constance McMillen, a teen from Mississippi who clashed with the school district just to attend the prom with her girfriend. Then there was Judy Shepard, who was the mother of late son Matthew Shepard, a murder victim in October 1998's hate crime, and finally, Lt. Dan Choi, a Iraq war veteran, and an active-duty Army reservist.
Also present were Mayor Bloomberg, City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, Gorvernor Paterson, Attorney General Andrew Cuomo and former Real Housewives Of NYC star Bethenny Frankel to grace the bigger-than-life event.
One of the participants, Anthony Burns, a 54-year-old teacher who has lost more than 50 friends to AIDS, has attended every Gay Pride Parade since the beginning of the movement.
"I smile, that's what my friends would want," says Burns.
