Defense Secretary Robert Gates certainly seems to think so.
Speaking on Fox News Sunday, Gates stated the president was against signing any legislation approved by Congress which includes funding for the C-17 cargo plane or an alternative engine for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter aircraft.
“It would be a very serious mistake to believe that the president would not veto a bill that has the C-17 or the alternative engine in it just because it had other provisions that the president and the administration want.”
Then Gates was asked whether or not he though the President would veto the bill even if it included a provision to repeal the current ‘Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy to which Gates replied: “I think so.”
What do you think. Would this provision be placed by those who oppose the repeal to seal a veto from the President?
