Withers: Former Bush adviser calls out fellow Republicans on DADT

Smarter people have talked about the intra-party squabbles in the Republican party. There is the paranoid wing, convinced America is turning into a fascist state (check out the verbiage of Minnesota Representative Michele Bachmann). Then there are others, who proudly extol Republican virtues, but are leery of tin foil hats.
Check out this conversation about Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell on ABC’s This Week. Matthew Dowd worked  for George Bush and has a son in the military. He asked a rhetorical question that no DADT supporter will ever answer.
“They socialize with kids that are openly gay and all of the sudden they go in the armed services, somebody gives them a rifle and they’re not supposed to be around gay people anymore?”
George Will (baseball fans should check out the reissue of his Men at Work) has been pushing the Republican/conservative agenda for ages. When asked about why House Republicans foams at the mouth about a possible repeal, he goes succinct.
“They’re not being very intelligent.”
Here is Sen. John McCain fuming about last week’s vote in the House and Senate Armed Services Committee. Notice how he conveniently forgets to mention any of the triggers before DADT is just a shameful relic. But why would he do that? If he did, his “argument” would be meaningless. Or possibly not “very intelligent.”
