Anyway, we finally saw Shame the other night and really loved it. His penis is everything they said it was, but the movie was surprisingly tender and sad without being maudlin or overwhelmingly depressing. No, really. We know a lot of people characterized it as dark and wrist-slittingly awful, but that’s not how we came away from it, for whatever reasons. It felt like a very real look at a very real couple of lives over a brief period of time, which made it all the more affecting.

But Carey Mulligan was a tiny bit miscast, we think.
