A man was found wandering downtown Chicago, early Saturday, according to police. The man – who at first was thought to be homeless – had severe trauma to his face, including several missing teeth. The victim was also not wearing shoes, pants, and only had one sock on. Authorities noted that the victims had apparently been attack andsodomized with a tree branch.
The man, who is about 60 years old, had to be taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where part of the tree branch had to be removed from his body.
Currently, the incident is being investigated as aggravated battery, there has been no talk of it being a hate crime as of yet but the possibility isn’t being ruled out.
The man’s condition is not known but his injuries are not considered to be life threatening. “He was beaten up real bad. It was an act of extreme violence,” said an officer.
On Sunday, a recent parolee was arrested in connection with the brutal attack. The apprehended suspect had recently served a six-yearprison sentence for armed robbery for two separate instances, one in 1991 and the other in 1996. He was paroled in May 2010.
The suspect was originally brought in  just for questioning but as of 5:30 a.m. today has yet to be released. So far, no charges have been brought up.
Belmont Area detectives are still reviewing video surveillance from that night, including all the areas where the crime could have taken place.
The victim was later found out to be from the northwest suburbs.
