Man W/His Dog Asked if Gay/He is Beaten/ Fl Refuses toCharge HateCrime

James Garcia Walking his dog in his neighborhood is attacked by a scum guy who was out of jail for an assault.
Editorial from Adam Gonzalez
Still, He is charged again with assault which could be pleaded down to attempted robbery or less, But they don't use the law enacted to protect the LGBT community which is a
"Hate Crime." The Scum guy asked him if he was "gay". Was he looking for a gay person? They have been numerous LGBT attacks on gay people in the last decade in Florida, particularly in the south.
Until they enforce the law in the books to let these hoodlums know for sure that attacking a gay person or senior person is going to send them not to the County jail for 15-30 days but to the state prison for longer. It will make them think twice and that is the time we need to defend ourselves or get out of the situation. Why do these assaults happen and the prosecutor treats it like any other case? The community and elders have to pay this Prosedcuor a visit and let him know we can't allow this to happen. These assaults are allowed to happen because of a sick political system that does not care for the people that can't walk around with a police escort or guard or decide not to take their guns with them. They don't see the need why the law is there to be used. It was not easy passing that law in Florida, again the GOP opposition said we don't need a law to separate crimes upon sexual orientation and the Dems in power pushed it through with lots of infighting. If sexual orientation is been causing for many decades to make people think is ok to assault because they are less or don't fight back. How many times has it been used? Only rarely in cases of murder as far as I know. But killing a person starts with beating the gay person up senselessly. If that guy had a gun this would be murder but these political hacks in Florida don't care about a gay beating. The community has to make them care. What is better? For the government to protect every part of the citizenship or for the victims, to feel they have no recourse but to defend themselves. All this talk about guns, this is the perfect example of why people want guns and the elected official's minds do not extend that much! Everyone with a gun should not be a crazy person or wife beater but these politicians don't recognize that people need protection some more than others. Senior citizens more than a 29 yr old. A gay person attacks not for money or any other reason but because they are gay. If Cubans were being attacked because they are Cubans we could need to make the law stricter to that. Why? To stop the racial, sexual picking of victims. We already have the law but District attorneys refuse to use it. That makes the law ineffective and as good if it was not there. In New York City if you assault a bus driver the penalty is worse than if John and Perter got assaulted. Why? To stop the abuse of picking on those people. This problem is existent nationwide but in the states with the worse statistics for assaults and murder the law is in the books to help it is rarely used but in Florida is never used and is followed by New York. I know first hand in NYC.

James Garcia is still healing from the physical and emotional pain of a brutal attack.

He says he was attacked out of nowhere on Easter morning. He was walking his dog at the time near his Fort Lauderdale condo. “I turned around and before I could react, this person walked up to me and asked me, 'Are you gay?' and then punched me,” Garcia said. Too bloody to call for help, a neighbor helped him dial 911. He was taken to the hospital.  Fort Lauderdale Police confirmed they’ve arrested 36-year-old Maurice A Charles. He's now facing aggravated battery. He says he’s sharing his story to raise awareness that crimes like this still happen. Click here for his story in a report from NBC 6’s Alyssa Hyman.

No. 2 - A special session by the Florida legislature to approve a new congressional map will also be considering terminating a special district for Disney's property in the state, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Tuesday.

DeSantis said the special session, which was set to begin Tuesday, will also be considering terminating all special districts enacted before 1968, which includes Disney's Reedy Creek Improvement District. Reedy Creek was created in 1967 and allows Disney to act as its own government within the outer limits of Orange and Osceola counties in Florida. The Republican governor has clashed with Disney over a bill he signed last month that limits instruction in the state's public schools on sexual orientation and gender identity in kindergarten through third grade.

No. 3 - Landlords across South Florida have raised rent prices to historic levels, pushing many people out of neighborhoods. And as a recent NBC 6 investigation revealed, more people are reporting discrimination when applying for housing in Miami-Dade County.

It’s an issue that caught the attention of Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. Miami-Dade County has a specific office dedicated to fighting housing discrimination – the Commission on Human Rights. Levine Cava told NBC 6 she is looking into expanding the office’s resources and wants people to file complaints if they feel they’ve been wronged. Click here for more in a report from NBC 6 investigator Phil Prazan.

No. 4 - Jimmy Butler walked off the floor when his night's work was complete, lifted his arms in the air, and heard a sold-out arena serenade him with screams.

Butler scored a playoff career-high 45 points, including a personal 7-0 run down the stretch to decide the game, and the Heat held off the Atlanta Hawks 115-105 in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference first-round series Tuesday night. Butler was 15 of 25 from the floor, 11 for 12 from the line, and 4 of 7 from the 3-point range. As such, the top-seeded Heat is going to Atlanta with a 2-0 lead. Tyler Herro scored 15 for Miami, while Max Strus scored 14 and Vincent added 11 for top-seeded Miami. Game 3 is Friday in Atlanta.
