Is Ellen DeGeneres A Good Person or The Worse Bitch

One of my dear friends, a Hollywood hairstylist who sadly passed away from cancer a few years ago, worked with Ellen at the very beginning of her career.

He said that before she officially came out and became mega-famous, she was fun to work with (he did her hair and makeup for a time), very nice, and interesting.

Ellen Changed When She Became Mega-Rich

After she came out, temporarily declined in popularity, and then became mega-rich and famous, he said that she changed significantly.

He no longer worked with her, mainly because they both moved on to other avenues in the entertainment industry, but he would still run into her or work with other clients who knew her quite well.

“Something happens when people become stars and get into that economic stratosphere,” says Shelley Ross, who was the executive producer at “Good Morning America” in 1997 when Diane Sawyer did a seminal interview with DeGeneres after the comedian risked everything to come out as gay — and saw her sitcom “Ellen” get canceled a year later as a result.

I Used To Be An Ellen Superfan In The Past

I asked him about Ellen, because I was initially a superfan, but had heard rumblings that she wasn’t a very nice person from a number of people I knew very well in the entertainment industry. He said that great fame and wealth in the Hollywood entertainment business will change some people.

Some people remain the same person they always were. Tom Hanks is an example of that. So is Jennifer Aniston.

Note: Not everyone agrees with this opinion, but many do.

They are both still lovely people at heart and do the best they can to balance the crazy demands of fame with being kind to everyone. It's easy.

Some Celebrities Don’t Surview The Fame Transition

Other people don’t make the transition as well.

Deep down Ellen DeGeneres is probably a good person or tried to be.

My own opinion, which everyone won’t agree with, is that the fame, fortune, and traumas of living in the entertainment area of Hollywood for all those years have significantly changed who she used to be.

Ellen Has A Long History Of Being Shunned For Being A Lesbian

People weren’t always nice to her. Look what happened when she came out on national television. There was a huge backlash and she was bullied, shunned, and ostracized.

I’m not defending her. Kindness is my own personal lifetime requirement. Even I sometimes struggle to be kind when people are unkind to me and I am just a normal person. Certainly not a superpower like Ellen.

Hollywood Is A Hard Town To Live In

The Hollywood entertainment industry can be a hard place to survive in. It’s hard to be nice and kind to people that want nothing but to stab you in the back and steal your career.

There are never any excuses for unkindness, but you have to consider Ellen’s entire life history in the entertainment business

I think she is good deep inside but has tarnished on the outside, which makes her act the way she does to people who share how mean she can be.

See: A comedian asked for stories of Ellen being mean and got 2,000 replies. Now, her show is mired in controversy.

Is Ellen Degeneres a good person? Yes. I believe that she is good, probably deep inside.

Is Ellen Degeneres a nice person? Probably not as much as she might have been. Especially on the outside.

See: Ellen DeGeneres isn’t as nice as she wants you to believe, insiders confess

At least at this current point in time due to whatever events have transpired in her life up to now and with her career.

The Takeaway? No One Knows For Sure

I have been humbled and awed by the amazing comments on this answer. Thank you to all who took the time to share your thoughts and reactions.

One of the commenters below pointed out that everyone has good and bad days.

Yes. That is definitely true.

It was also pointed out that Ellen deserves to be cut some slack for all she has gone through in her life Also an excellent point.

Whatever is happening with Ellen, and none of us know for sure, I hope she finds peace, happiness, and kindness as she closes the current chapter of her show and her life.

Best wishes to all.

“Is she always nice? No,” said the former staffer. “It irritates me that people think she’s all sweetness and light and she gets away with it.”
