Sissonville , Kanawha County , West Virginia Buckwild’s Shain Gandee Dead at 21

The Kanawha County Sheriff's Office has now identified all three people, including "Buckwild" cast member Shain Gandee, who were found dead in a vehicle in Sissonville.

The bodies of Gandee, 21, his uncle, David Gandee, 48, and Donald Robert Myers, 27, all from Sissonville, were discovered inside a Ford Bronco located Monday in Sissonville, according to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office.

The vehicle and bodies were found by one of Shain Gandee's friends who was searching the trails and ridges in the area for him and the others. The vehicle sat evenly, but upright, and was partially submerged in deep mud. Mud was covering the lower part of the passenger side door of the vehicle, but the driver's side of the vehicle was above the mud. The muffler of the vehicle was completely below the surface of the mud.

Deputies said the Bronco was found next to a ridge-top trail, and the section of the trail was passable for four-wheel drive vehicles. But the Bronco was in a mud pit next to the trail. The area is accessed by following the wooded trails for about one mile from Shain Gandee's residence, near Thaxton Hollow in Sissonville.

Shain Gandee's body was in the driver's seat of the Bronco, the release said. The Bronco was removed from the mud by a bulldozer.

The bodies were removed from the vehicle and have been taken to the state medical examiner's office. Autopsies will be performed to determine the cause of the deaths.
The cause of the deaths of “Buckwild” cast member Shain Gandee and two others whose bodies were found in a vehicle likely will be determined in autopsies by the state’s chief medical examiner.

Gandee’s body and that of his uncle, David, were found Monday in a Ford Bronco in a wooded area near Thaxton Hollow in Sissonville, according to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office confirmed their identities, but said the third person found has not been positively identified. Family members said the third person is Robert Myers, 27.

The sheriff’s office said there was no sign of foul play.

Deputies had received information earlier in the day that Shain Gandee, 21, and David Gandee, 48, were missing. The sheriff’s office received word of a disabled vehicle near Thatxton Hollow. Deputies and members of the Sissonville Volunteer Fire Department used all-terrain vehicles to access that vehicle, a 1984 Ford Bronco belonging to the Gandee family. The vehicle was in a muddy area along a worn path.
