Jonathan Winters 87, Dies of Natural Causes
Legendary comedian Jonathan Winters died of natural causes in Montecito, California on Friday. He was 87 years old.
Winters' career started in radio, and he was one of the first big television stars. One of his most beloved characters was Maude Frickert, a seemingly sweet old lady with a sharp tongue. He also played Mork and Mindy's son Mearth in the final season of the eponymous show.
His humor made him a popular guest on many shows, from "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson," "The Dean Martin Show," "Hee Haw," and "The Hollywood Squares."
Winters' also voiced Papa Smurf in "The Smurfs" cartoon, and reprised the role in the recent movies.
His career life span for so many years. He was just a poor nobody until his wife entered him in a comedians’ contest to win a watch. He won the watch and started making people laugh even without saying a word. His array of characters had no end. He could make anybody laugh. He had that gift that anyone can do and say what he does but could never get someone laughing.
He had had his tough times facing depression and even commitment, they call it something or other now: “Entered in the hospital because of exhaustion.“ He never had none of that but like anyone of us he had his own private demons to fight.
RIP Jonathan
