A serial rapist is accused of using the dating website ChristianMingle.com to prey on his victims. The suspected rapist, an unemployed California man, allegedly used the Christian dating service to attract new victims as he toured the country, said California police on Monday.
According to ABC News, the suspect used the site to lure in new victims when he would travel for a past job.
Sean Patrick Banks, 37, a former Navy sailor, used a fake name to contact a woman who he allegedly raped in November, cops in La Mesa, Calif., said. Investigators believe that he used additional aliases to contact other women on the popular website and police hope that if there are additional victims they will recognize Banks.
Banks has been previously charged with two counts of rape. He posted $500,000 bond and was freed, but authorities have been unable to contact Banks since his release.
“We continue to assist the La Mesa police department with its investigation in every way possible. The safety and security of our members is extremely important to us,” said a spokesperson for ChristianMingle.com in a statement. “In addition to having experts manually review all profile content and photos, we have developed several proprietary, automated tools to ensure the highest possible level of safety and privacy for our communities.”
