The Dancing Referee March 14,1954 - Feb 21, 1995

Popularly known in Portuguese as 'Margarida', or 'Achingo' meaning 'Daisy', the dancing referee was Jorge Jose Emiliano dos Santos, a Brazilian. 

Dos Santos was openly gay and used his unique, over-the-top style of match officiating to popularise the homosexual cause in Brazil and beyond. He was born on March 14th, 1954 and died of AIDS on February, 21st 1995, aged just 40.

He has been mimicked widely since his death, but no one has quite matched him for sheer, unbridled enthusiasm and flamboyance. Here he is in action:
