One year after the ban on gays serving openly in the military was lifted, NBC Nightly News checked in with several gay soldiers and airmen to show how the repeal of "don't ask, don't tell" has affected those on the front lines of combat.
Watch the NBC video report below to see how the U.S. Military - from grunts to top brass - are handling and mostly embracing the change, but also how some of the old anti-gay stigma lingers, with many on active duty choosing to remain in the closet.
