NEW YORK State Of Mind

• Now we’re talking. What a refreshing change from politicians that climb over each other to deny GLBT folks their rights (I’m talking to you, twice-divorced defender of marriage Governor Linda Lingle of Hawaii).

In my fair state of New York, the Democratic candidate for Attorney General
Sean Coffey, has promised his support to the GLBT community in no uncertain terms. From a press release Coffey has called for full equality for every LGB AND T. His support covers all of our hot button issues, ENDA, Fair Housing, marriage equality and DOMA.
“One of the most important step towards achieving full equality is a repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which wrongfully denies gay and lesbian couples their right to full expression of love and commitment and further perpetuates a culture of discrimination that infects other areas of American life.  As the next Attorney General, I pledge to be New York’s top legal advocate on this issue.  I will file suit against the federal government and support any action to repeal DOMA.  I fully support Congressman Jerry Nadler’s bill – the Respect for Marriage Act – that would repeal this draconian law,” he wrote.
Hey NY’ers here’s one that doesn’t parse words…let’s work to get him elected.
• One Down, Seven To Go. Fight Back NY is working to replace a select group of New York State Senators who voted against marriage equality last December. Their targets are both Democratic and Republican and so far they are 1 for 1.
The next target is Sen. Bill Stachowski (D) of Buffalo who is in a tight Democratic primary. Fight Back NY says that Stachoski has “voted against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) New Yorkers at every turn, whether it’s nondiscrimination protections or marriage equality.” I love that this organization takes marriage equality right to the source. Fire the bums!
