In an hourlong phone call on Saturday, President Trump pressured Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to overturn the results of that state’s election, saying he just wanted to “find 11,780 votes.” Raffensperger told Trump, “We have to stand by our numbers.” Read the story.

A battle is looming between congressional Republicans who plan to object to the certification of November's presidential election results, and others who believe Congress needs to accept the will of the voters.

In a forceful op-ed published on Sunday, a bipartisan group of 10 former secretaries of defense called for an end to challenges to the presidential election, calling it a dangerous threat to the nation’s security. They also said the U.S. military has no role in the dispute. 

The grim milestones are piling up as the United States experiences another surge in coronavirus cases. Nearly 300,000 new cases were reported on Saturday. The cumulative death toll crossed more than 350,000 the same day.
