Here's what we're following today. |
President-elect Joe Biden will be sworn in as the 46th president of the United States on Wednesday. He will take the oath of office alongside Vice President-elect Kamala Harris in an unusual inauguration ceremony, which will be conducted amid a raging pandemic crisis and unprecedented security precautions. Follow NPR’s live coverage of today’s events beginning at 11 a.m. ET. After he is sworn in, President Biden plans to sign 17 executive actions in the Oval Office. It is an effort to reverse some of President Trump's policies and set a tone for his own administration. Steve Bannon and Lil Wayne are two of dozens of people granted clemency by President Trump just hours before his term comes to a close. The list left out preemptive pardons for himself and his children, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange or former NSA contractor and whistleblower Edward Snowden. In one of his final acts in office, in the wee hours of the night, President Trump revoked Executive Order 13770, an order on ethics he signed when he first took office, freeing the way for people who have served in his administration to cash in with lobbying gigs.
