Video: NFL players discuss gay players
As part of the debut of “Out. The Glenn Burke Story,” Comcast SportsNet Bay Area had a series of panels discussing the issues of gays in sports (see whole list). I watched a panel with former NFL players Bill Romanowski and Loreno Neal, along with sportswriter Ray Ratto.
It was a good discussion, with Romanowski and Neal — though both gay supportive — talking about the the problems it would create in the locker room. I liked Ratto’s comeback to that:
We’ll find out how athletes feel … when the gay teammate is an indispensable player. … Then we’ll know how big an issue it is.
The 10-minute segment is worth watching. At the end of it, moderator Greg Papa mentions that they would have a panel with current players including Raiders quarterback Jason Campbell, but that segment is not yet online.
