School in UK teaches what gays have done for humanity

An institute of London introduced in their class study of homosexual characters in history, as part of a program to combat homophobia among boys.

"What they have in common - the teacher asks - Sir Elton John, Alexander the Great, William Shakespeare, and Clare Balding?". Meanwhile, the slides from Ian McKellen, Giulio Cesare, Martina Navratilova, Richard the Lionheart and Oscar Wilde are shown to the class. The program to 1,350 students of the Stoke Newington School is having so much success to be exported to other schools. "We noticed that students were using the word" homosexual "as a term of abuse," said Annie Gammon, a teacher.

ENTHUSIASTIC STUDENTS - The system, the Independent reported today, is becoming so successful that Elly Barnes, a teacher who has created is receiving requests from other institutions of the Kingdom. Even a school in Perth, Australia, has expressed his interest. Elton John and Alexander the Great, Oscar Wilde and Richard the Lionheart, Martina Navratilova, and even William Shakespeare, are all designed in different materials and in the course of a month, to highlight the contribution of gay, lesbian and bisexual people in history and the arts.

"Helps you understand" - During the hours of computer science, for example, the course focuses on Alan Turing, the mathematician at Bletchley Park who had decrypted the German codes and many who committed suicide just 42 on account of a persecution homophobic against him. "It helps you to understand and believe that everyone should follow these lessons," he told The Independent Jo Farrelly, 11 years. "'I did not want to be associated with gay or lesbian, but now I have no problems," said another student.
