WATCH: EastEnders dad supportsgay son

Millions of viewers have gotten to know long-running UK soap EastEnders’ new family over Christmas – and have taken young Johnny Carter to their hearts.
Played by Sam Strike, Johnny was seen kissing a male EastEnder before crying on his supportive dad’s shoulder when all was revealed.
Watch the kissing scene below. The couple get noticed by Shirley, played by Linda Henry, who memorably also played gay teen Jamie’s brash mum in 1996 movie Beautiful Thing.
Later scenes show Johnny’s dad Mick, played by Danny Dyer, having a heart-to-heart about his son’s budding sexuality.
“I just wanted to say… it will be OK,” he tells him. “I just wanted you to know that me and your mum will be OK with it.
“I know that being gay is not a choice – it’s who you are.”
Watch some scenes from Johnny’s ‘coming out’ episode below, with the emotional fatherly chat coming at 10 minutes in:
The reception to Johnny’s storyline as been largely good, with many welcoming a realistic scenario in among the gangsters and murders usually served up by the soap.
But there’s been a few strange viewer complaints to the BBC, and actor Danny Dyer has received some nasty twitter trolling messages.
Just after the episode screened, Dyer tweeted to thank the show’s fans: “Thank you all so much for the love…overwhelming… hope the show tonight gives some people the confidence to be true to themselves and be happy.”
But he has some specific and visual advice for the homophobes behind some of the dumber tweets he’s seen:

Here’s a little message for some of the homophobic pricks who are tweeting me……..happy new year

Screenwriter Darran Little, who penned the gay EastEnders storyline, tells his twitter followers: “I’m blown away by the response to it. I’m so glad it touched you. It’s the only thing I’ve ever written that’s had me in tears.”
