David Lynch sadly died after he was "forced to relocate from his house" due to the Los Angeles wildfires, according to reports.

Thousands of people have had to flee their homes as raging fires continue to sweep across California . The death toll has risen to 27, with officials sending in cadaver dogs to sniff out the remains of people who have been hidden by debris.

David's death was announced by his family on social media . In their statement, they did not share the Twin Peaks director's cause of death

David had been diagnosed with emphysema, revealing his diagnosis last year. In November, he revealed he needed supplemental oxygen to walk. A source has now claimed his health recently took a turn for the worse.

Speaking to Deadline , the source claimed David's health worsened after he had to relocate from his house due to the Sunset Fire. The Mirror US has approached David's representatives for comment.

David's family announced his death on Facebook, writing, "It is with deep regret that we, his family, announce the passing of the man and the artist, David Lynch. We would appreciate some privacy at this time."

They continued, "There's a big hole in the world now that he's no longer with us. But, as he would say, 'Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.' … It’s a beautiful day with golden sunshine and blue skies all the way."

The filmmaker had revealed his emphysema diagnosis last August. Emphysema is a chronic lung disease that damages the air sacs in the lungs, making it difficult to breathe. He was diagnosed in 2020 after a lifetime of smoking, which started when he was just eight years old.

David admitted he could no longer leave the house when he shared his diagnosis through fear he would contract Covid-19. The diagnosis also meant he had to end his five-decade-long career.

Some of David's most popular films include Dune, Wild at Heart, The Elephant Man and Eraserhead. He also directed Blue Velvet, as well as the TV show Twin Peaks. David had a distinct filmmaking style and was known for creating dream-like movies.

He received a number of recognitions during his career, including the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement in 2006, an Honorary Academy Award in 2019, and the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. He was also nominated for four Academy Awards for his work.
