Her book Oil On the Brain: Petroleum’s Long, Strange Trip to Your Tank won the Northern California Book Award for nonfiction and was named one of the 25 notable books of 2007 by the American Library Association. She has received two excellence in journalism awards from the Society of Professional Journalists. She works in Oakland, California.
