Three months after former MTV reality star Joey Kovar's August passing, the Real World: Hollywood alum's death has been ruled an accident.
Passing away Aug. 17 in Chicago, Kovar, 29, was discovered by a female friend who called 911. Authorities dispatched to the scene pronounced him dead on arrival.
Though law enforcement sources close to the case originally believed a mix of cocaine, Viagra and alcohol caused Kovar's sudden death, the Cook County Medical Examiner's office told TMZ on Nov. 10 that Kovar passed away due to "opiate intoxication."His death has officially been ruled an accident.
Having sought treatment for cocaine and ecstasy addition during a 2010 stint on VH1's Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew, Kovar first opened up about his substance abuse struggle on MTV's The Real World: Hollywoodin 2008.
TMZ reports that Kovar was taking the prescription painkiller Norco shortly before his passing, but it is not yet clear if Norco was the opiate that contributed to his death.
