Christie Turns Down Appearance with Romney
The Huffington Post is reporting that Mitt Romney’s campaign asked New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie to appear at a rally in Pennsylvania this weekend — and got denied.
The Romney rally was held at a farm in Morrisville, Pa., not more than 20 minutes from Trenton, the New Jersey capital. The physical proximity of the event to New Jersey only added to questions in the Romney campaign about why Christie chose not to come.“You can’t tell me he couldn’t have gone over there for a night rally,” a Romney campaign source told HuffPost.
An aide to Christie told Huffington Post that the governor, who was scheduled to campaign for Romney before Hurricane Sandy hit, had his hands full dealing with storm damage.
Christie has effusively praised Obama’s handling of the storm, dismissing conservative critics who say he’s helping the president win reelection.
If “anybody is upset in the Republican Party about this, then they haven’t been to New Jersey,” the governor said Sunday. “Come see the destruction, come see the loss, and then tell me if you’re going to still criticize me for complimenting somebody who is the President of the United States and who has provided help to my people during one of the worst crises this state has ever faced.”
