Inside the split: As Arnold Schwarzenegger stepped out in Beverly Hills over the weekend, new details of his separation emerged
He had just separated from his caring and devoted wife of 25 years.
But given the chance to brag to a neighbour, Arnold Schwarzenegger said he could live without Maria Shriver and claimed: ‘I’m getting me a 20-year-old honey’.
The arrogant Terminator star, 65, refused to attend marriage counselling and told her to get out of their house - even though it was him who cheated.
Shriver was forced to live in a hotel whilst Schwarzenegger remained in their California mansion with their four children.
When she demanded a divorce he bluntly told her: ‘I have the money, the power, and the plane, and I will have the friends.’
An in-depth article about the former California governor reveals for the first time the full extent of the fallout from the love child he had with his former housekeeper Mildred Baena.
Schwarzenegger’s public reputation has been left tarnished, his family have turned against him and he spends his days alone in his home with memorabilia from his acting career ‘like Citizen Kane’.
Son Patrick, 18, has started calling himself Patrick Shriver and his two daughters ‘do not trust him’, according to Newsweek magazine.
And no wonder - Shriver only found out about his husband’s affair when she saw Joseph, the 14-year-old son she had with Schwarzenegger, at one of her Christmas parties.

Schwarzenegger had known for years that that the boy was his but kept Baena ‘near enough to him that she wouldn’t even think of betraying the secret’.
When he was was confronted by Shriver, the niece of former US President John F Kennedy, he ‘profusely apologized’ and begged forgiveness.
But when she asked that they temporarily separate and go to therapy he refused to cooperate, in the full knowledge it would cost him the marriage.
At that point Schwarzenegger brazenly told a neighbour: ‘I think things will work out OK with Maria, but if they don’t, I’m getting me a 20-year-old honey’.

According to the article: ‘Arnold is a very different kind of person (to Maria).
‘Anything that posed emotional pain or difficulty, he was out of there.
‘He could not understand why Maria could not just forgive and get on with things, and when Maria said she needed a trial separation and told Arnold to move out, family and friends say that he refused. It was his house, and he wasn’t budging...
‘...Maria could not stay with her estranged husband. The mansion had the scent of the affair in every bed and sofa, and wherever Maria looked she saw pictures and memorabilia of her husband.

‘And so she moved into a hotel, where her children came to visit her. She had lost her mother and father within a year, and now she had lost her marriage.’
Schwarzenegger is now trying to build up his reputation once more and make a comeback as an actor having already appeared in The Expendables 2.

But according to Newsweek’s Laurence Leamer, his ‘repulsive’ behaviour has been his undoing.
He writes that being governor of California meant Schwarzenegger was ‘consumed with the incredible rush of power and prestige that was almost like an addiction’.
Cheating is ‘part of the amusing game of his life’ and a woman is a ‘spoilsport’ if she disapproves.
Leamer writes: ‘With Arnold, sex has always been about his willful assertion on the world.
‘It is about taking everything he wants to take, touching anything he feels like touching, and going wherever he wants to go.
‘He does so with a boyish sense of humor, endlessly joshing as his hands move forward.’
Schwarzenegger’s memoir, Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story, is out next month.
He and Shriver, 56, have yet to formally divorce but she has denied there will be a reconciliation.
Leamer claims that he interviewed Schwarzenegger for the article but was not allowed to quote him directly.
