An actor in the series “Sons of Anarchy” — and former lover of Katy Perry — went on a bizarre rampage Wednesday, killing his elderly landlady and cat before plummeting to his death from a roof in a Los Angeles neighborhood, sources said.
Investigators are investigating whether killer Johnny Lewis, 28, had the synthetic drug, Smiles, in his system when he murdered octogenarian Catherine Chabot David, LAPD Commander Andrew Smith said.
Lewis stormed into the senior’s apartment around 10:40 a.m., ransacked the unit, bashed her furniture and beat her to death.
It was unclear what spurred the orgy of violence.

Lewis fought them off with a 2-by-4 and “superhuman strength,” TMZ reported. He may have also used a paint roller in the melee, Smith said.
He then hopped back over the fence and climbed on the roof of one the buildings on the property where he had been living less than one week after getting out of jail on an assault charge, police said.
By the time cops arrived — responding to a call of a screaming woman — Lewis was dead in the driveway, apparently after leaping or falling from the roof.
Further investigation revealed the murdered landlady with “blunt force trauma to the head,” and the dead cat.
The bizarre and tragic end to the actor’s life was the culmination of long downward spiral from his glory days dating singer Katy Perry and playing the one-testicled motorcycle gang wannabe "Half Sack" on "Sons of Anarchy."
The beginning of the end came earlier this year, when he pleaded no contest to first degree burglary and received a 291-day sentence, plus three years probation, a law enforcement source told The News.
Lewis then spent six weeks in jail on the assault with a deadly weapon conviction, getting out Sept. 21, the source said.

Despite the troubles, Lewis’s father described his son as “the bright star of our lives.”
“We always looked up to him, and now I guess we'll have to look up a little higher," Lewis, 62, added, his voice cracking with emotion.
He declined to discuss the circumstances of his son's death.
Lewis’ neighbor, Blackburn, was sporting a black eye a day after the mayhem and was in no mood to talk.
“I have to go to the dentist now. I have a chipped tooth too," he said as he got in his car. "I can't talk."
One neighbor who avoided the madness recalled the 81-year-old Davis as “friendly and lively and fun.”
“I was so shocked to hear this happened,” said Barbara Angvire.
The designer drug Smiles may have been behind the frenzy. “There are several new drugs that are coming out after bath salts got outlawed. New drugs come out all the time," Smith said. "That's of course one of the things that our detectives are going to look into. ... We don't have any hard evidence that he was on anything."
A full toxicology report on Lewis’ body could take weeks.
Over a 12-year acting career Lewis also starred in "Aliens vs. Predator — Requiem" in 2007, and had recurring roles on the television series "The O.C." and "American Dream."
