Welch Footballer Tweets Anti Gay HIV Remarks to British Divers } His Bud SUSPENDED!
Welsh footballer Daniel Thomas has been suspended after allegedly tweeting homophobic abuse about British Olympic divers Tom Daley and Peter Waterfield.
Port Talbot Town FC confirmed it will conduct an internal investigation into the Twitter post sent from the midfielder’s account earlier this week.
Thomas denied making the offensive tweet made after the athletes missed out on a medal in Monday’s 10 meter platform event in London.
The club previously blamed the tweet, which said the Olympians can ‘go and bum each other’ as a consolation and ending with #teamHIV, on a ‘misguided prank’ after Thomas left his phone unattended.
However, despite an apology, the 28-year-old player has now been suspended while the matter is investigated.
A club spokesman said: ‘Port Talbot Town Football Club can confirm Daniel Thomas has been suspended from all involvement with the club until we have carried out a full internal investigation.
‘Upon being informed of the matter, we immediately distanced ourselves from any offensive messages whilst investigating the matter further.
‘Having spoken at length to the player in question, we believe he regrettably left his phone unattended and was the victim of a very misguided “prank”.’
The footballer’s alleged remarks on the social networking site follows the arrest of a 17-year-old in Weymouth on Tuesday (31 July) who sent Daley, 18, a 'malicious' tweet telling him he had let his late father down after finishing fourth in the competition.
Daley’s father died of brain cancer in 2011. The diver responded to the tweet by replying: ‘After giving it my all... you get idiots sending me this.’
