Gay Eric Fanning picked to next Under Secretary of the Air Force
Last week, President Barack Obama nominated Eric Fanning as the Under Secretary of the US Air Force.
According to the Victory Fund, Fanning is one of the 250 openly LGBT professionals working in the Obama administration. The Fund maintains this 'is more than all known LGBT appointments of other presidential administrations combined.'
Since 2009, Fanning has been the Deputy Under Secretary of the Navy. Before his work in the Navy, he was thedeputy director of the Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation and Terrorism.
'I am honored by the President's announcement, and look forward to working with the Congress and continuing to serve the Department of Defense during the confirmation process,' said Fanning, according to the website for the Air Force.
As reported by the Air Force, the Under Secretary serves as the 'Chief Management Officer of the Air Force, the senior Air Force energy official, and the focal point for space within Air Force Headquarters.'
