NYC Police Tricking People into being Arrested
New York City Police have been tricking people who smoke pot into getting arrested by asking them to empty their pockets. This happens all the time in all those thousands of stop and frisk in NY. A small amount of pot is legal to carry in your pocket, so when the cops would stop someone by telling to empty their pockets if there was no crime instead of telling them to put their property back in their pockets they would be arrested for displaying marijuana which is a misdemeanor. Now some people might say well it was well deserved, but that comment would beg for someone to ask, Why? Does it serve the public good to arrest somebody who is not breaking the law and instead to trick them into an arrest? An arrest they will carry with them all their lifes'. You might get some fish that might go to commit other crimes, but we do not arrest people on what they might do. Take for instance young people that are already suspicious of the police and not in the mood to cooperate when there is a crime committed. After an experience like that they would assumed in many cases correctly, that the system is rigged in favor of some people and against others, sorely depending where you live or where you are casually driving by. Fairness is the corner stone in which justice lays. It makes no sense to arrest somebody by tricking them and having a pair of officers tie down with paper work processing this individual and then having the overloaded court system to deal with it in their docket.
After the Zombies that people have elected to Albany and after being lost in the dessert of stupidity for 12 years or so it is so refreshing to see common sense and leadership come out of that town. Last year by voting on Equal Marriage and this year by the same new Governor to change the law so that this trickery in arrests stops. You know that he and the people giving him information are in touch with would appear as a victimless crime by the police. No such thing. Just like when we get to huff and puff when we see a criminal get out of serving time on a technicality, the same applies to the other side. Unfairness breeds unfairness and it is the food for which crime develops in a society. Be Moscow or be New York State.
I wish there was someone, be an individual in charge of looking up in what appear to be little things like that, not just the police but the health sector with medicaid being a poisonous snake with long fangs and no eyes or the Education Dept. for which for years has allowed pedophiles to walk around with impunity because they have a strong union and officials afraid to tangled with them. Even when they were caught, they would be allowed to continue to receive payments, benefits and retirement. It would be great of Gov. Cuomo let the present mayor in NYC barrow some of the people he is got working for him. The mayor, a good decent man that has the best intentions at heart but sometimes lacks the people to understand for him the plight of the homeless or the poor or middle class and illness and rents and accommodations and a bed for the night. The local government should be a place that looks to help people get help not to get workers that look to disqualify people looking for help.
The way NY goes, so does the rest of the nation eventually. We forget that so many times. Just like in the change of the marijuana law, you have the same system in other states. Hopefully they would see how wise sensible this little change is.
