GAY marriage is likely to be legalised within the next two years, a prominent Queensland activist says.
Brisbane mother Shelley Argent, Queensland's 2011 Senior of the Year, has been actively campaigning for gay and lesbian rights since her son told her he was gay in 1998.
Yesterday she addressed hundreds of same-sex marriage supporters in Brisbane's Queens Park for the Equal Love rally and urged them to "keep fighting".

"It's pouring rain but that can't affect the momentum of our cause," she said. "Demonstrations like this are putting pressure on our politicians and I think things are going to go our way.
"By next year or 2013, I think marriage equality will come. And when we do get same-sex marriage legalised, it doesn't mean that you have to get married - just that you will have the choice.''
Ms Argent was one of a number of speakers, including former Democrats leader Andrew Bartlett, now a member of the Greens party.
Mr Bartlett said he could not say when same-sex marriage would be legalised but that the Greens would use every opportunity in the next few years.
