Kings of Leon drummer Nathan Followill has slammed Glee creator Ryan Murphy over comments the TV writer made about the band's refusal to allow their music to be used on the show.

Murphy previously criticised the group, claiming that their anti-Glee stance sends the message that they do not care about music education.

Writing on his Twitter page on Wednesday, Followill said: "Dear Ryan Murphy, let it go. See a therapist, get a manicure, buy a new bra.

"Zip your lip and focus on educating 7yr olds how to say f**k (sic)."

The post drew negative feedback from the site's users who felt that it expressed homophobic sentiments towards openly gay Murphy, causing Followill to later clarify the comments.

"I'm sorry 4 anyone that misconstrued my comments as homophobic or misogynistic," he explained.

"I'm so not that kind of person. I really do apologize."
