GLBT History Month Starts October 1
In October, Equality Forum honors 31 gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) icons both past and present who have accomplished terrific things and have made outstanding contributions to society.
Care2 will be participating this year, so throughout October we'll bring you short biographies of these icons, some entertaining and inspiring media, and actions you can take to support causes that each particular GLBT History Month icon is involved with or represents.
Who are the Icons this GLBT History Month?
The icons honored this year represent a diverse cross-section of thinkers, sports stars, activists, veterans, artists and writers who have refused to be defined by negative stereotypes surrounding their sexual orientation or gender identity and have achieved excellence in their particular field.
A few selections might prove controversial, others you will easily recognize as GLBT icons, and there will be some that you may not have heard of before. Here's the trailer for this year's icons:
