Former President Trump was fined an additional $1,000 on Monday for the latest violation of the gag order in his criminal hush money case in New York, making it his tenth violation.
Why it matters: Judge Juan Merchan, who is overseeing the trial, threatened to jail Trump if he continues to violate the order, which prevents him from commenting on witnesses, prosecutors, court staff, and jurors.
"Going forward, this court will have to consider a jail sanction," Merchan said Monday.
Trump had previously been fined $9,000 for the other violations.
State of play: Prosecutors have argued that Trump has repeatedly violated the gag order case.
