NYC Has Given Birth to More Billionaires Than Any Other City

Hello Adam,

This is Ben, data analyst at MarketsChain. I hope this email finds you well.

I am reaching out with our recent report highlighting the U.S. towns and cities where self-made billionaires are most likely to be born. Our team analyzed Forbes' Real-Time Billionaires ranking and found that New York City has given birth to more billionaires than any other city in the United States.

There are 724 billionaires with American passports which is enough for the U.S. to be the country with the largest number of individuals whose net worth is estimated at over $1 billion. In 2023, the folks at Forbes added more than 60 new people from the U.S. to their Billionaires List, which made our team curious as to why the U.S. is the billionaire capital of the world. SuperCasinoSites wanted to see which American towns and cities have produced the most billionaires, and whether a person’s birthplace factors into their skill set, work ethic, ambition, or opportunities to be among the richest 1%?

To answer this question, we calculated the number of self-made billionaires who were born in the U.S. and sifted out those who inherited or married into money, as well as those born outside the country The end result was a total of 422 American-born, self-made billionaires.

It turns out New York City is the birthplace of 54 of them, more than any other city in the U.S. To get comparable results, we ranked the cities by number of billionaires born per capita, and out of the cities with a population of over 1 million people, New York once again comes out on top:

Cities where the most billionaires, per 100,000 people, were born (in populations over 1M):

- New York City, NY - 54 total self-made billionaires; 0.65 billionaires per 100K residents

- Philadelphia, PA - 10 total self-made billionaires; 0.64 billionaires per 100K residents

- Chicago, IL - 14 total self-made billionaires; 0.53 billionaires per 100K residents

- Los Angeles, CA - 14 total self-made billionaires; 0.37 billionaires per 100K residents
