Deranged Marjorie and Scammer Santos R Teaming up to Block LGBTQ Books

The Idiots are here..just like in Jr high

Heartbreaking: the two worst people you know just made…whatever the opposite of a good point is.

George Santos and Marjorie Taylor Greene, both candidates for Congressional Republican Main Character, have co-sponsored a bill with the apparent intent of banning books with LGBTQ+ characters or themes from U.S. schools.

Although the text of HR863 has not yet been uploaded to government websites, its sprawling title gives a good idea of what’s going on. The bill aims to prevent publishers from “knowingly furnishing sexually explicit material” to schools, and would strip federal funding from any school that makes such material available to students. “Sexually explicit material” is the phrase Republicans now commonly use to refer to any LGBTQ+ subjects, regardless of the presence of any actual nudity, eroticism, or sex. The bill has been referred to the Judiciary and Education committees for consideration.

“The battlefield for the future of our society is being fought within the classrooms of American schools,” wrote the bill’s author, newly elected Rep. Cory Mills, on Twitter last week. “This bill targets the Left’s efforts to sexualize children in schools across the U.S.” You may remember Mills from his stunt last month when he delivered inert grenades stamped with the GOP logo to fellow members of Congress.

HR863 has gathered seven Republican cosponsors as of Thursday, including Santos and Greene — two House members who aren’t even liked that much on the right. Greene, who has naked ambitions to be Donald Trump’s running mate in 2024, rode into Congress on the back of QAnon conspiracy theories and has repeatedly used her position to attack and insult transgender people. (Perhaps most unforgivably, she’s also tainted the initials of my favorite card game.)

Santos, meanwhile, has been the subject of ever-increasing bafflement from across the political spectrum as his web of campaign trail lies continues to crumble. After becoming the first out gay Republican elected to Congress last November, journalists discovered almost all of his resume appears to have been fabricated, from his college diploma to his Goldman Sachs work experience. Since then, reports of Santos’ past as a Brazilian drag performer, allegations of embezzlementcampaign finance violations, and even attempting to marry a teenage boy have dogged Santos, who still refuses to resign — even though his own party desperately wants him to.

But Republicans’ push to ban LGBTQ+ books is much larger than two representatives. Allied with far-right militias like the Proud Boys, conservatives have engineered a culture of fear surrounding queer and trans books in hopes of removing them from schools and libraries across the U.S. In 2022, 40% of banned books were LGBTQ-related; conservatives in states like North Dakota have called for librarians who provide such books to be jailed.
